Philip Muema, a Partner at Andersen Tax in Kenya, a member firm of Andersen Global, was recently quoted in an article for The Standard Digital Kenya. The article, titled Rotich Narrow Options to Tax His Way to Sh2.2 Trillion from You, summarizes the opinions on Kenya Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich's upcoming announcement of new Kenyan tax law changes. The new changes in tax law introduced by Rotich will take effect on July 1, the start of the Kenyan government's financial year.
In the article, Muema discusses how the options available for Rotich are small outside of stiffer taxes, after taking into consideration the large national budget and less opportunity for borrowing funds. Muema also mentions that even though the expectation of Rotich is to double the capital gains tax in the country, it is still the lowest in the region.
